Trigger Point Massage
Trigger points are sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers, known as “knots,” which form in the muscles. These tender spots cause pain and can restrict movement. They are often caused by injury, repetitive motion, or poor posture. In a trigger point massage, the therapist will work closely with the client to identify these painful spots and apply sustained pressure to release and soften them. Many report immediate relief after just one session. Because of the time required to release trigger points, it is recommended that only one or two areas be focused on in a one-hour session.

Hot Stone Massage
The therapeutic effect of heat is used to relax muscles more deeply. Smooth stones are heated and then lubricated with lotion or oil. Used as an extension of the therapist’s hands, the use of massage stones induces deep relaxation and provides a unique experience many find to be tremendously calming and centering. While hot-stone massage is greatly beneficial for most, it is not recommended for people with certain health conditions. Your therapist will conduct a health history with you prior to your massage and will recommend the best service for you.

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy (prenatal) massage is designed to nurture and support the mother-to-be as her body undergoes the dramatic changes that pregnancy brings. This massage is ideal for the expectant mother in her second or third trimester, who is experiencing a healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy. During this massage, the mom-to-be will be positioned on her side. Pillows and bolsters will be used to support the shoulders, hips and knees. Safe and effective massage techniques are used to induce relaxation and relieve the discomforts that often accompany pregnancy. A multitude of studies have found that massage in pregnancy is beneficial for relieving lower back pain, reducing anxiety and stress, increasing circulation, and improving sleep.

A safe massage session will revolve around the short-term and long-term side-effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Our trained therapist will modify established massage techniques to accommodate for your unique health situation. These modifications are related to length of session, pressure, positioning, and specific areas of concern like ports, lymph node dissection, skin issues, tumor and surgical sites.
Studies indicate that oncology massage enhances the quality of life. Benefits include improved relaxation, sleep and immune functions, as well as alleviating stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue and nausea.
Please note: If you are requesting an oncology massage, please check with your doctor to make sure it does not interfere with your treatment. A doctor's note stating you are cleared to receive an oncology massage is needed prior to arrival.
